Sofia Richie in Topshop at the Met Gala: try hard or cool?

A handful of models last night were dressed in either Topshop or H&M and I didn’t hate it. The clothing chains created some decent gowns, although H&M was much more on theme and less cheap-looking as we’ll get to in a moment. On E! last night they were fussing over Sofia Richie’s look, which wasn’t anything special in my opinion. I missed some of what Sofia told E!’s cameras, but apparently she got a tattoo at the same time that she was having her hair and makeup done. Kudos to her for not Instagramming it yet. Sofia’s story kind of underscored the calculation behind Sofia’s look, although I’ve seen much worse. The moto jacket is kind of cool and I like her jewelry, but overall this is forgettable. It’s just a deep v-neck gold loose metallic gown. Also I wish wet look hair would go away already. Her people paired that with too much highlighter on her face and she just looks sweaty.

Candice Swanepoel was also in Topshop, in a big ‘ol black strapless dress with a giant skirt. Of all the Topshop gowns, this was my favorite and she wears it well but the bar is rather low. I do love her styling with that tight cascading pony and cat eye accented with a swath of blush. Her makeup is amazing and she’s so pretty. Candice just had a baby in October! There was a lot of talk about Behati Prinsloo’s baby daughter, whom she gushed about on the red carpet, but Behati’s baby is actually a couple of weeks older than Candice’s.

Here’s Behati Prinsloo in a white Topshop sheath gown with cutouts and straps. It’s a great little gown which is not memorable or on theme, but she looks exquisite. Kudos to all the hair and makeup artists last night because most of the styling was impressive. (With the exception of some of the wet look hair.)
