The mystery buyer of an iconic property on Conrod Straight at Bathurst has been revealed to be a successful US-based Australian businessman and race car driver.
Kenny Habul, the president and CEO of SunEnergy1 and a former NASCAR driver, has outed himself as the buyer of the 6.88ha estate ahead of this weekend’s Bathurst 1000.

Habul paid $1.6m for the six-bedroom landholding last month after it was passed in at auction in July.
Habul, who oversees one of the largest utility solar project developers in the United States, confirmed he was the buyer of 489 Conrod Straight in an interview with motorsport publication speedcafe.com.
He told the publication that when an opportunity to buy a home on Mount Panorama came up, “I didn’t really have to think twice”. This follows rumours starting soon after the home sold that a mystery US-based Australian race car driver who had raced at Bathurst was the buyer.

Habul plans to do some renovations to the home once settlement takes place and will use it as a base when in Australia to race or spectate.
As previously reported by The Daily Telegraph in July, the home was on the market for the first time in 88 years and had been expected to sell for around the $2m mark.
Raine & Horne Bathurst director Grant Maskhill-Dowton said at the time the estate was built by sellers before the track opened in 1936.
The landholding features the main house, a detached extension, a shed, historic orchard and sweeping district views of the track.
The main residence features three bedrooms, a study, mud room and floating floorboards, while the detached extension has another three bedrooms and a large open plan living area with a secondary kitchen.
Other features of the home include a 6.6kw solar system, town water, a well-sized dam and a slow combustion wood fireplace.
Habul’s new digs is located next door to another home on Conrod Straight that is currently for sale. The 4.05ha property at 505 Conrod Straight is being offered with a $3.15m-$3.5m guide. That estate also has a DA for the construction of six new dwellings, two new pools and two machinery sheds.
Habul has raced across several categories in the United States including the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the NASCAR Xfinity Series. In Australia he has participated in the Super2 Series and Formula 3.
